Ladies you will have to agree with me that jeans might not be the right choice for every occasion. Sometimes, skirts can also have a moment and you can steal the show. There is no dearth of options and the market is flooded with a plethora of these pretty stuffs ranging from elegant a-liners to chic peplums.

Let’s have a look on the type of skirts and how you can cash in on them:

1. Peplum skirts: Peplums or overskirts have gained tremendous popularity. But you should know how you can sport one to look good. Select a soft material as stiff material would look formal.  Pair your dress with sexy peep-toe or strappy heels. If you are short, then make sure that you don’t wear wedges as you can appear shorter. You also need to be careful while choosing you top as you should not choose something that obscures the peplum.

2. Maxi skirts: I believe, women feel quite comfortable in maxi skirts and hence this type is quite loved. The skirt is long enough to cover the knees and calves and thus most of the women find themselves confident after slipping into maxi skirts. But they have to be the right length; make sure that your maxi skirt isn’t shorter than half an inch from the bottom of the shoe. If you happen to be short then it can make you appear taller. Don’t opt for stilettos or pointy heels. Knee- high boots are a strict no-no. Instead, go for flats or something that gives a rugged look.

3. Midi skirts: Well, this is actually a sophisticated style and doesn’t suit everyone. With respect to the length, the hem can fall anywhere three inches below the knee to midcalf. If you want to play safe, you can simply pair a high-waist midi with a blouse and tuck it in. Ankle boots will accentuate the look. If you have a longer torso then this is definitely for you as it will balance the upper and the lower pretty well. Short girls should avoid midi skirts unless you have no other choice as it will only make you look shorter. Also, do not opt for midcalf or knee-high boots which can spoil your look.

4. Mini Skirt: You need to have slender legs or you should be young enough to pull off this style pretty well. If you belong to none of these categories and you have only a mini skirt as an option, you can certainly go for it along with tights. You can combine these skirts with flats or even wedge boots. Make sure that you do not go for stilettos! Pairing them with loose tops will give you a feminine look. If you are tall, then you are quite lucky to pair minis with cardigans and long jackets for a sexy and chic look.

5. Pleated Skirt: This is a universal style and can suit almost any body type. You can sport it and avoid people’s gaze from the areas which you are not confident about. You can pair these pretty skirts with blazers or knitted tops; a turtleneck top will look quite flattering when paired with one. Since it gives a very feminine and simple look, make sure that your footwear is also delicate and complements it very well. Think stilettos here! If you are petite, then your skirt shouldn’t be shorter than knee length and if you are tall, then you can go for midcalf length.

Skirts are a great alternative to dresses and hence it is absolutely necessary to pair them with beautiful tops. You can also sport accessories such as belts or bracelets to add to your style quotient; anyways, it’s not only just for your style quotient but also for a complete look. Make sure you also pick the right footwear.

Tips for pairing tops with skirts
1. If you want to keep the top un-tucked then try to opt for a well-fitted top. In case you go for pencil skirt, you can switch to voluminous tops. In case, you do not want to wear a fitted top, then accessorize with a belt.
2. For a tucked in top, you can add a belt as well. This has actually worked wonders for me and can take your attire to a completely different level as it gives a proper waist definition.
3. You can also go for cropped cardigans with a-liners. Unbutton or button them as per your choice.

So if there are a lot of orphan skirts scattered in your wardrobe, you have some homework to do. Else when you go shopping, you will have a lot of idea about what to get.
