Fourth of July marks a very significant day in the American history. This dates back to the year 1776, when America claimed its independence from Britain. Today, the face of this country has changed completely and is home to diverse people who come here from different parts of the world to live the American dream. This diverse land comes together every year on 4th July to celebrate its independence. So, if you are lucky enough to be a part of the celebrations, then what are some of the events that you can attend or places where you can hang out? Let’s find out:

America’s National Independence Day Parade, Washington: There is no place better than the nation’s capital, Washington D.C. to celebrate the Independence Day. To begin your day with patriotic sentiments, you can watch the marching bands from all over the country. Military and special units are also the attraction for the day. The parade starts at 11:45 at Constitution Avenue and 7th street NW.

Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine: This is another fantastic place to be on Independence Day. The place is associated with an interesting history as the roots of American national anthem lie here. A poem written by Francis Scott Key became the Star Spangled National anthem here in the year 1814 when the battle of Baltimore was being fought. This was later adopted as the American National Anthem in 1931.

Boston Pops Performance, Boston: Boston is one of the oldest cities of America and has upheld the tradition of Boston Pops performance. The historic declaration of independence is read from the balcony of the old State House and is followed by the parade. The celebrations culminate with a live concert and a spectacular display of fireworks on the banks of the Charles River. Other than this, a number of events are lined up in the cities which are a part of the 6-day annual Boston Harborfest. Fireworks, cruises, concerts, tours and much more form the highlight of the celebrations.

Capital Fourth Concert, Washington: Capital Fourth musical concert is the highlight of Washington on 4th July every year. This kicks off as the night dawns on the West Lawn of the Capitol building. The U.S. Navy Band and National Symphony Orchestra also are a part of the spell-bounding concert.

Smithsonian Folklife Festival, Washington: The National Mall is home to the Smithsonian Folklife Festival which is celebrated every year and stretches over a period of two weekends around 4th July. The temperatures are set soaring with music, dance and so much more celebrating the cultural diversity. This is an exact place to be if you want to be a part of a colorful celebration.

Kaboom! Town: As is evident from the eponym for Addison, Texas, this town is known for its spectacular display of fireworks every year. A large number of people come from everywhere to witness different colors in the sky. If you want to enjoy the day with your family, then this can be a treat for the kids.

San Diego: If you do not want to celebrate the Independence Day in a traditional manner, you can opt for barbecues, beer and bonfires. The popular beach town, San Diego is packed with activities and you can be a part of the 3- week long San Diego County Fair. The Big Bay Fireworks is something which is hard to miss because of the amazing display of fireworks that illuminate the sky.

New York City: The hot dog eating contest at the Coney Island attracts people from all over the world and culminates in yet another attraction, Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks display. Heading to Hudson River in Manhattan would give you a better view and you can also cruise a boat and enjoy the night with dance, drink and music.

With so much to choose from, you can either pick a beach party or celebrate the Independence Day the traditional way with parades or attend music concerts and fireworks.
